National Immunization Awareness Month

Updated: Aug 28, 2020

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. You have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases like whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV, and pneumonia through on-time vaccination.

Northeast Missouri Health Council encourages you to talk to your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional to ensure you and your family are up to date on recommended vaccines. We also encourage you to visit CDC’s Interactive Vaccine Guide, which provides information on the vaccines recommended during pregnancy and throughout your child’s life.

We know many parents use the beginning of the year to get children up to date on all the vaccines they need to stay healthy, and we want to encourage adults to do the same. Use CDC’s adult vaccine assessment tool to see which vaccines might be right for you.

Fall is also the prime time to get your flu shot and prepare for flu season. Plan to attend one of northeast Missouri's drive-thru flu clinics or schedule an appointment to get it done today.
